As a registered counseling psychologist and family therapist, Janet believes that the family therapy gives her an advantage in dealing with individual clients, as well as their family members. She has been taught and inspired by Dr Lee Wai Yung in the Advanced Course of Family Therapy organized by the Asian Academy of Family Therapy for the past seven years. She drew attention on this by working for a secondary school for a year. During the counseling sessions in a school at Tin Shiu Wai, she realized it was difficult to make successful impact on students without their parents' cooperation. What makes this occupation so meaningful is if there is an improvement in client's condition, it can have positive spillover effects to his/her family members、colleagues and friends. After hearing her clients' life stories, Janet came to be aware of how challenging her job as a family therapist is. Her clients’ stories often inspire her to perceive her blessings more, and complaints less.
Janet provides individual counseling and family therapy in two Christian family counseling centers in Private Sector and now. She has been counselling for drug users of Ethnic Minorities in a Non-Governmental Organization for four years. Her job duties include leading groups and delivering talks for parents and teenagers in schools, especially serving the families of teenagers and adults suffering from addictive and delinquent behaviors, career guidance special education needs (SEN) and emotional distress. Moreover, she keens on facilitating career guidance in secondary schools.
Besides, Janet is invited to write articles at Ming Pao、Ohpama.com、EVI.com 、Worldwide Holistic Magazine, and conducting RTHK interview.
